Updated: Motorcyclist seriously in crash on Route 6 in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET – A car and motorcycle collided in Wellfleet sometime after 2 PM Saturday. The crash happened on Route 6 by the Wellfleet Cinemas at the Eastham town line. The motorcyclist was serious injured and rushed to Barnstable Municipal Airport to meet a MedFlight helicopter for transport to a trauma center. Traffic was heavily backed up in the area. Wellfleet Police are investigating the crash.

Statement from Wellfleet Police: On Saturday August 3, 2019 at approximately 2:12 PM, the Wellfleet Police received numerous 911 calls for a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Route 6 near the Eastham town line.  Upon arrival, members of the Wellfleet Fire Department treated a 52-year-old male operator of the motorcycle who sustained serious injuries.   The male operator was transported to Barnstable Municipal Airport where MedFlight transferred him to a Boston hospital.  The initial investigation has revealed that the motorcycle was heading south on Route 6 when a Toyota Camry was pulling out of the Wellfleet Drive-in striking the male operator.  As a result of the crash, both lanes of Route 6 were closed for approximately one hour with vehicles being detoured and the northbound lane was reopened at 315 PM with all traffic opened back up just after 4 PM.  The crash remains under investigation by members of the Wellfleet Police Department.  Also assisting at the scene was the Eastham Police and Fire departments.
