NANTUCKET – Police Chief William Pittman has announced that the following employees of the Nantucket Police Department will be recognized for outstanding achievements in 2015:
Meritorious Service Award:
Detective Sergeant Thomas Clinger
Detective Brett Morneau
Detective Michael Cook
These detectives are being given this award for bringing to prosecution a suspect in four sexual assault cases that occurred dating back to 2008 following a highly complex investigation.
Exceptional Duty Award
Dispatcher Patrick Considine
Dispatcher Matthew Sullivan
These Public Safety Communication Dispatchers were on-duty when several 911 calls were received regarding a breaking and entering with an assault at Bartlett Road on September 19th, 2015. The dispatchers were able to gather the appropriate information, calm the survivor of the assault and provide important information to responding officers regarding the suspect. Their actions resulted in the officers fathering information and protecting important physical evidence that provided important leads for the detectives to eventually bring this case to closure.
Exceptional Duty Awards are given for a highly credible act in the line of duty which is unusual in nature, showing initiative and accomplishment.
Civilian Service Award
Jay D’Aprix, VIP
This member of our “Volenteer in Policing” Corp has been an active member since 2013. He works Thursday mornings every week. In 2015, Jay worked a total of 174 volunteer hours on behalf of the department. He also assisted with several community projects such as a bicycle safety course at the Nantucket Elementary School and Suicide prevention.
The Civilian Service Award is for personal assistance by a civilian to members of the Nantucket Police Department and the community that they serve.
Chief Pittman said that it was a very difficult task selecting those deserving special recognition especially with a case like the one that led to these awards considereing how many current and former employees also played a significant role in these investigations that have been on-going since 2008. Some of those involved have retired and others have moved onto other opportunities in their lives. Their contributions to the success of the investigation will now allow the survivors to put these horrible incidents behind them and start the process of also moving on with their lives.
Chief Pittman will be joined by members of the Nantucket Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Libby Gibson in recognizing these members for their 2015 accomplishments Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen,
