Nantucket schools closed following rumored threat

NANTUCKET –  Nantucket Public Schools will be closed Monday after school officials learned of a rumored threat to the high school that is not considered credible.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Cozort sent out an automated message to families in the school district Sunday night that said they have been working with the Nantucket Police Department on rumors of the threat.

“While we do not believe that it is credible, I have made the decision to close our schools tomorrow, Monday, June 4th, in order to give the Police Department and other law enforcement officials working on this case time to further investigate and ensure the building is safe for our students and staff,” the statement said.

School officials said they would share more information when they were able to do so.

Nantucket Lighthouse School will also be closed on Monday.
