FALMOUTH – A visitor from Quincy, along with the help of other bystanders, saved a teenager from drowning at Pinecrest Beach on Jenkins Pond Thursday morning. At 11 AM, a beachgoer noticed a young man was having trouble staying above water and attempted to give him a flotation device, but the teen unintentionally pushed her under water while trying to stay afloat.

Brian Matthews heard the screams from his nearby vacation rental and immediately entered the water to assist. After finding the teen at the bottom of the pond, he was able to bring him to the surface. Once on shore CPR was performed until first responders arrived. The teen was later transported to Falmouth Hospital for further treatment.

Officers at the scene said that the quick action taken by Matthews and others clearly saved the teen’s life.
