Updated: One evaluated after kitchen fire in Bourne

BOURNE – Firefighters rushed to 6 Oakwood Drive in Bourne around 8 PM Thursday for a reported house fire. Crews arrived to find fire showing in the kitchen. A hose line was stretched to and the flames were quickly knocked. Crews checked to see if the fire had spread to the second floor. Am ambulance was called to evaluate an occupant of the home. Further details were not immediately available.

Bourne Fire reports that on Thursday, they responded to a reported possible structure fire on Oakwood Road in Sagamore Beach. The Deputy Chief out of the Sagamore station was first on the scene within three minutes. He met the sole residence outside the home and observed the kitchen fire through the front windows. The deputy made entry and knocked down the fire with an extinguisher from his vehicle.

The first engine arrived immediately after the deputy and quickly advanced a hose line to completely extinguish the fire. Damage to the residence was limited to the kitchen with no fire extension to the rest of the dwelling. Brewster EMS out of Plymouth responded to the scene to assist, The crew evaluated the resident, who ultimately refused treatment and transportation to the hospital. Personnel from the Bourne Police Department assisted on location, and Plymouth Fire provided an engine for station coverage. An ambulance from the Falmouth Fire-Rescue Department responded to a medical aid request in Pocasset during the fire.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. A department investigator determined that the fire’s cause was accidental heating of combustible materials. Bourne Fire-Rescue wants to remind everyone to ensure that you have working smoke alarms and know two ways out of your home in the event of a fire.
