Outer Cape voluntary gun buy-back program

WELLFLEET – On behalf of the outer Cape police departments, Wellfleet Police Chief Ron Fisette announces a voluntary gun buy-back program from Saturday, May 7, through Monday, May 16.

Those who bring in a gun or guns can choose from a selection of gifts including whale watch tickets, binoculars and gift card for local markets and stores.

Program organizers anticipate that most guns turned in will likely come from “next of kin” (persons who have inherited guns from a family member). According to Chief Fisette, each unwanted gun turned in is a benefit to public safety efforts.

Guns collected during this program will be delivered to the Massachusetts State Police and destroyed.

Program organizers will attempt to identify any antique, rare or highly collectible guns and inform the person that it may have potential value. Area merchants may be able to help determine the value of the collectible gun.

The dates and locations of the program are listed below. Each session runs from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
