UPDATED: Barnstable Police looking for Toyota in fatal hit & run pedestrian crash

CENTERVILLE – Barnstable Police report that at approximately 7:50 PM Friday evening, they received several 911 calls regarding a seriously injured man lying in the westbound lane of Route 28 in Centerville, in the area of the Bell Tower Mall, 1600 Route 28.

Officers arrived on scene with the COMM Fire Department and located a 62-year-old male in the westbound lane of the road suffering from severe trauma. It appeared the male had been struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene. The victim, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by COMM Fire Department and subsequently pronounced dead. Traffic on Route 28 was diverted as the Barnstable Police Crash Reconstruction Unit conducted their preliminary investigation and the road was reopened for normal traffic after approximately 90 minutes.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a Toyota sedan (Corolla, Camry or Avalon) that is light in color (brown, grey or champagne). It has damage to some or all of the following areas: front end, grill, hood, windshield and the roof. The suspect is described as a white female in her late twenties / early thirties with black hair. She is described as wearing blue jeans and a light colored coat and she smokes cigarettes. The female suspect got out of the vehicle and checked on the victim before getting back in her vehicle and fleeing the scene headed westbound on Route 28.
