UPDATED: Pedestrian struck and seriously injured in Hyannis

HYANNIS – Barnstable Police report that an 88-year-old Hyannis man was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing South Street in Hyannis at 9:20 AM. The single car pedestrian accident occurred just east of the Sea Street intersection, and caused a brief road closure while police and EMS worked the accident scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 79-year-old Carver man who was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Trax owned by a national car rental company. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation, and no citations have been issued at this time. The pedestrian was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was stabilized before a MedFlight helicopter was expected to take him to Rhode Island Hospital.
