UDPATED: Pedestrian struck, seriously injured in Wareham

WAREHAM
– Wareham Police report that on Thursday at approximately 1:15 PM, Wareham PD, Onset Fire Dept., and Wareham EMS responded to Soft Touch Car Wash located at 3083 Cranberry Highway (Routes 6/28) regarding the report of a man lodged under a vehicle in the parking lot. Officer Christopher Smith reported noticing a commotion while patrolling in the area of the car wash and conducted further investigation, which led to the discovery of a man pinned underneath a vehicle as it left the car wash bay.

Emergency personnel responded and freed the man, who sustained unspecified serious injuries and was transported by EMS to Tobey Hospital, where he was immediately transported by MedFlight to a Boston area hospital for treatment.

The injured man, who will not be named at this time, is a 69-year-old Middleboro resident and employee of Soft Touch Car Wash. The driver is a 66-year-old Naples, Florida resident who was operating a Toyota Sienna minivan and just exiting the car wash facility when the incident occurred.

Investigation of the incident is ongoing by the Wareham Police Department and OSHA, but all preliminary indications at this time show the driver of the van was unaware the incident occurred and he is not expected to be cited.
