Phone scam trying to raise funds for Wellfleet Police Union

WELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Police Department would like to advise the public of a phone scam that has been occurring over the past couple of days. Someone has been calling residents telling them that they are collecting money for the Wellfleet Police Union or some other police-related union. The calling party also advised that they will pick the check up at their house. It should be assumed that any phone calls received where someone is requesting money for any purpose is a scam. Also, as a reminder, do not give out any personal information over the phone.

A resident of Truro reported to Truro Police Sunday that she received a call from someone identifying themselves as a member of the Truro Police Department and asked for a donation. PLEASE be aware that the Truro Police Association never conducts telephone or door-to-door fundraising, nor do they contract with any services that do so. A donation letter sent out in February is the only way we raise money for the projects we do.

The Massachusetts Police Association IS soliciting donations by phone. They are conducting their fundraiser and asking for support by purchasing tickets to a baseball clinic. This is a legitimate fundraiser.
