New details and video report: Driver arrested after large work truck ends up on roof after striking utility pole on Route 134 in Dennis

DENNIS – On Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at approximately 8:58 pm the Dennis Police Department received reports via 911 of a motor vehicle crash into a utility pole with possible injury at the entrance to the Cape Cod Rail Trail on Route 134 in South Dennis. The first officer to arrive confirmed that a truck had struck and damaged a utility pole, and the operator of the vehicle had been seen leaving the scene on foot north towards the Cumberland Farms store at 460 Route 134.
The vehicle operator, a 43-year-old man from Middleboro, MA, was located behind the Cumberland Farms store where he was taken into custody for three outstanding arrest warrants. The crash investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet truck, was traveling north on Route 134 when it left the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole and then rolled over onto its roof. Based on the results of the investigation at the scene the vehicle operator is additionally being charged with:
• Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
• Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
• Speeding
• Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
• Failure to Stay within Marked Lanes
• Resisting Arrest
The suspect was processed and held overnight at the Dennis Police Department and is scheduled to be arraigned today in the Orleans District Court.
The work to repair the utility pole went on overnight and is continuing this morning with traffic being detoured off of Route 134 between Upper County Road and Theophilus F Smith Road.
