Police: Incident with young female was a misunderstanding

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Wednesday at approximately 5:22 p.m., Patrol Officer Louis Nickinello, Jr. responded to a report of a 20-year-old female from South Yarmouth who had been verbally accosted while walking her Golden Retriever on Pleasant Street in South Yarmouth.

Officer Nickinello met with the woman who reported she was walking on Pleasant Street just east of River Street when she noticed a black or blue mid-size pickup truck eastbound on Pleasant Street pass her.  The woman noticed the driver looking in her direction as it passed.

A few moments later she noticed the same pickup truck driving back towards her down Pleasant Street.  The truck stopped next to her and the operator told her to put the dog in the back of the truck and get in.  The young woman immediately walked away from the truck, returned home, and contacted the Yarmouth Police Department.

Yarmouth Police report the man and his truck have been positively identified and based on the evidence presented and an extensive interview of the man and re-interview of the young woman, it appears to be a misunderstanding and there was no clear criminal intent.

The man has no criminal record and was completely cooperative. The young woman is doing very well and there will be no further action at this time. The Yarmouth Police Department thanks everyone for their assistance and input.
