VIDEO: Police negotiate peaceful surrender of armed man in Harwich


HARWICH
– Harwich Police report that tuesday morning at approximately 9:30 AM they received a report of an armed and despondent adult male in a residence off Long Pond Drive in Harwich. Harwich Police immediately responded to the address and encountered a 24 year old male in a second floor bedroom holding a gun to his head.

Officers remained on scene and requested crisis negotiators from the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council as well as the Councils Regional SWAT team.

Negotiators established contact with the individual and at approximately 12:30 PM the man surrendered himself into police custody without incident. He was then transported to the hospital for psychological evaluation.

Harwich Police and Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT were assisted at the scene by the Harwich Fire Department, the Yarmouth Police Department K-9 unit and the Southeastern Mass Law Enforcement Council.

A .380 caliber handgun with ammunition was recovered from the bedroom. The incident remains under investigation by the Harwich Police and may result in criminal charges being filed against the individual.
