Updated: Arrest made in vicious attack of man in Hyannis

weeksrichardfjrHYANNIS – On Wednesday at approximately 2:20 a.m., Barnstable Police Patrol Division responded to the area of 215 Main Street in Hyannis for the report of a male subject down with a severe head injury. Hyannis Fire personal also responded to the scene and transported the victim to Cape Cod Hospital for immediate medical treatment. The victim, a 20-year-old from Hyannis, was later MedFlighted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for a fractured skull. He was listed in critical but stable condition.

Further investigation by patrol officers along with Detectives Reid Hall and Meaghan Cunningham, found that the actual crime scene was located in an apartment on Yarmouth Road in Hyannis. A suspect was also developed at this time, identified as Richard F. Weeks, Jr., 46, of Hyannis. A Search Warrant was issued from the Barnstable District Court for the apartment and later executed by the Barnstable Police Detective Unit at the residence.

As the result of the Search Warrant and investigation Weeks was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to murder. He was being held on $25,000 bail at the Barnstable Police Department pending his arraignment at the Barnstable District Court on Thursday.
