Postal worker accused of theft in Wareham

WAREHAM – From Wareham Police: On Saturday October 20, at about 7:40 a.m. Officer Calib Larue responded to the Cumberland Farms on Main Street for a larceny. At the scene, the victim reported that at about 6:50 a.m. she put her purse down momentarily on a counter, and walked to the back of the store. When she returned she was about to make a purchase and realized that over $60.00 in cash was stolen from the purse. A review of the security footage revealed that a customer in a United States Postal Uniform had reached into her purse and taken the money.

An investigation determined that the suspect was in fact an employee of the U.S. Postal Service assigned to the Taunton area. Taunton police were contacted and placed the suspect under arrest at the request of WPD at about 12:15 p.m. According to Taunton police, the suspect, Thomas Medeiros, 63, of Wareham, was arrested on his postal route in their city. Officer Larue went to the Taunton Police station and transported Mr. Medeiros back to Wareham. The stolen money was recovered and Mr. Medeiros was bailed pending an appearance in Wareham District Court on Monday morning. He is being charged with larceny from a person.
