BOURNE – The Massachusetts Army National Guard’s Natural Resources Program, in partnership with Federal, State and non-profit agencies, plans to conduct a prescribed burn on Camp Edwards on Joint Base Cape Cod on Friday, conditions permitting.
The fire operations are intended for habitat management and ecosystem maintenance with additional objectives of wildfire hazard reduction, firefighter training, and training lands improvement.
The fire management program for Camp Edwards uses prescribed fire for ecological benefits by attempting to duplicate the role of natural fire in maintaining a mosaic of ecological communities on Camp Edwards, which is home to some 37 state listed species of plants and animals.
