Probable cause found to charge Bourne’s ‘Tip Jar Bandit’

BOURNE – A clerk magistrate in Falmouth District Court has found probable cause to charge a Bourne woman with allegedly stealing tips from a local restaurant.

Mary Gelsthorpe will be arraigned on larceny charged March 26.

The 66-year-old is accused of stealing cash from a tip jar at the Lobster Trap Restaurant in Bourne last month.

Gelsthorpe was identified after detectives were able to confirm she used a credit card to purchase food immediately after reaching into the tip jar and people recognized her from the shared surveillance video.

The video appears to show the woman taking cash from the tip jar while standing at the counter.
