PROVINCETOWN – The Provincetown Coast Guard Station will host its annual open house for the community Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m..
According to Officer in Charge Jim Zerinskas, the event gives members of the public an opportunity to meet personnel and have a behind the scenes look at daily operations.
Once again a favorite attraction will be the three search and rescue boats assigned to the station, two 47 foot motorized life boats and one 29 foot response boat.
Visitors can board these vessels and talk with crew members about how they are used in search and rescue operations and other missions in the area.
In addition, visitors can tour the facility grounds and main building. Active duty personnel, along with members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, will be on hand to answer questions about Station Provincetown and its history.
They also will distribute free literature and other materials about recreational boating safety, including new Coast Guard publications for kayakers, canoeists, and other paddle craft operators.
There is no public parking at the station. Visitors will need to park in nearby public parking areas or use the free shuttle service running from MacMillan Pier. A photograph ID is necessary for admission to the Station.
Bags and backpacks are subject to search.
