Message from Provincetown Police regarding Commercial Street Construction Phase 3 Update:

We are happy to report that major construction work along Commercial Street associated with Phase III improvements are complete.

The last section of the initial layer of porous pavement was put in place on Tuesday December 13, 2016.

This means major disruptive work is completed for the season and any remaining construction activity will continue as weather allows. The porous binder course of pavement is in place the final top course of porous pavement will be placed in the spring.

The planned date for this activity has not been set and the information will be make available once the schedule is established.

Crews will continue to raise water, sewer, and drainage structures along Commercial Street. Although many of these structures are in the traveled way, whole closures of Commercial Street are not anticipated.

Brick sidewalk work is complete to Dyer Street and the concrete base layer for the remaining sidewalk work is in place to Johnson Street. Sidewalk crews are scheduled to continue the placing for brick next week between Dyer Street and Johnson Street. This work is weather dependent but it is our intention to have this brickwork completed to Johnson Street this season.

Side streets and driveways between Howland Street and Dyer Street have been paved with traditional asphalt binder. Construction crews will continue to prepare the remaining side streets and driveways (between Dyer Street and Johnson Street) and the paving of these areas is scheduled for early next week.

Miscellaneous brickwork/concrete/asphalt repairs to driveways and walkways disturbed during construction will continue on the both sides of Commercial Street, as necessary, after the brick sidewalk work is complete.

All work is weather dependent.

Pedestrian access through these remaining work areas is available along the concrete sidewalk base, finished sidewalks, or along the new roadway. Again, while walking through these construction areas, pedestrians will need to exercise extra care.

Vehicular access is available between Howland Street and Johnson Street, including Cook Street, Bangs Street and Dyer Street. The access to remaining side streets will be paved next week and will be open to traffic when this work is complete.
