HYANNIS – It was a long Thursday evening for Hyannis Firefighters who were called to the International Inn on Main Street. The trouble started in the L-shaped building in the rear of the property. It appears the roof drains had clogged some time ago allowing the recent heavy rain that fell along with other rainwater to build up on the roof and cause a structural collapse of the ceiling in the center of a two-story lobby area.

Hyannis Fire estimates they dewatered over 100,000 gallons of water from the roof to relieve the structural pressure. The building was evacuated and closed for the evening. A building inspector will evaluate the damage on Friday but fire officials say is appears at least eight roof rafters shattered and a load carrying beam was twisted.
