Road conditions deteriorate, multiple crashes reported

8:3o AM update: Eastham Police report that the roads have become very slippery with a layer of ice underneath the snow! Please travel slowly and take your time throughout the day today while on the roads. Mass Highway and the town DPW will be out sanding and plowing, please make sure to give them space as well!

Sandwich Fire reports that as of 7 AM, Moderate snow was in the area and expectations are still for 4-6 inches with higher amounts in the western and northern portions of town. Winds gusty to 30 MPH throughout the morning. Temps holding around 32 degrees so snow is wet with some off and on mixing. Roads are bare pavement Rte 6A and side roads still have snow.

Yarmouth Police report that around 7 AM, A single vehicle crash had just occurred on Route 6A near Weir Road in Yarmouthport. There were no injuries but a utility pole was split in half. Police Officers on scene, and utility crews will be working in the area for extended period of time. Road is open but please use extreme caution.

Eversource reported 43 customers without power in Brewster.

9:00 AM update: Rollover crash reported on Higgins Crowell Road at Jaybird Lane. Luckily no injuries. A car vs pole crash was reported on Route 28 at Santuit-Newtown Road in Cotuit.

9:30 AM update: Rollover crash on Route 28 southbound in Falmouth between Thomas B. Landers Road and Brick Kiln Road. No injury reported.

11:30 AM Update: West Barnstable Fire working two crashes, one on the Service Road near the Sandwich line, the other reported as car vs guard rail on Route 6 between exits 4 and 5 eastbound. One person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital from that scene. NWS reports 2.5 inches of snow in Sandwich and 2 inches in Provincetown. Wellfleet Police report the town transfer station will remain closed today while employees are needed for plowing.

1:00 PM update: 900 Eversource customers are without power in Dennis.

CWN’s Jake O’Callaghan reporting in from Harwich where slippery roads caused this single vehicle accident on Bay Road around 11 AM Saturday. Two people in the Acura RDX were not injured. Harwich Police are handling the investigation.
