Update: Video: South Yarmouth business blaze ruled accidental

SOUTH YARMOUTH – UPDATE: On Thursday February 25 the state fire marshal’s office announced that it has determined that the fire on Tuesday that heavily damaged the Sur Tan Leather Trading Post leather goods store was accidental. Spokesperson Jennifer Mieth said the blaze started in the attic, but the exact cause was officially undetermined.

PREVIOUS STORY: Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday a fire was reported in the Sur Tan Leather Trading Post located at 1230 Route 28 in South Yarmouth at the corner of Carter Road and Route 28.

Yarmouth firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze with the assistance of the Dennis Fire Department.

The fire was declared under control at 1:53 p.m. but extensive overhaul will be required. Yarmouth Fire requested the State Fire Marshal to the scene at 1:57 p.m.

Route 28 between Carter Road and Wood Road was closed until 3 p.m.
