DENNIS – A section of Route 6A in Dennis by the U.S. Post Office was closed Monday after a dump truck owned by Chase & Merchant hooked electrical lines as it was exiting the driveway at 777 Route 6A, across from the Dennis Post Office around 3:37 p.m.

The electrical service to the Dennis Post Office was yanked off the front of the building along with the building’s gable end. The gable end collapsed on the front steps of the post office.

Dennis Postmaster Dianne Calderwood ran to the lobby of the post office when the incident occurred. She said that a woman was about to walk out the door when the gable end came crashing down. The woman was uninjured but covered with insulation. Calderwood considers it a miracle that no one was injured.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Route 6A was closed until Eversource crews could secure the damage. The road reopened around 5:55 p.m.

Dennis Police are investigating the crash.
