SANDWICH
– Sandwich Police report that they are charging a 27-year-old male from East Sandwich and a 22-year-old male from Barnstable with Fire Negligence. This is a result of a three-acre fire in the woods at the end of Atkins Road Tuesday.

Sandwich Police and Fire received a report of a forest fire on Tuesday at approximately 3:30 p.m. Police officers arrived with fire personnel and confirmed there were smoke and flames deep in the woods. Multiple fire agencies responded to assist in putting out the three-acre fire. After an investigation, it was determined that an ignitable liquid was used to start the fire. The two male parties will be summonsed to court for Fire Negligence.

With the current conditions and warm weather approaching, woods can dry out quickly. As a reminder, the open burning season has ended for this year and is only permitted January 15 through May 1 after obtaining a valid permit from the Sandwich Fire Department.
