UDPATED: Missing man found in Sandwich


SANDWICH – The Sandwich Fire Department assisted the Sandwich Police and other state and local assets with a search for a missing person in the area of the Power Lines and Great Hill Road. A command post and staging area were set up and resources were deployed including the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and K9 teams. The Sandwich Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police started conducting searches utilizing their ATV’s.

At 9:00 AM On orders of Deputy Chief Burke, the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team along with the Barnstable County Incident Management Team responded with members trained in wide area ground searching. A team of 26 responded with equipment and mapping capability to support the operation. Ironically the teams were already assembled at Joint Base Cape Cod for a search and rescue training day.

At approximately 11:15 AM, as the team was preparing to start out, a man fitting the description walked out of the woods. The man was confronted by members of the Tech Team and was confirmed to be the missing subject. The man was transported to the command post and was medically evaluated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further evaluation. Support was provided by the Sandwich Police and Fire along with Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and the Barnstable County Incident Management Team.
