Search for Vermont murder suspect expands to Cape Cod

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – The South Burlington Police Department continues to investigate the murder of Anako “Anette” Lumumba, age 33, of South Burlington. On May 3, 2018, at approximately 6:25 PM, the South Burlington Police Department received a call from the Falmouth (MA) Police Department, advising a male entered their department to report a possible shooting in South Burlington. The reporting individual indicated a family member of his, identified as Leroy A. Headley (36 years old of South Burlington), called him and stated he shot his girlfriend. South Burlington police officers responded to a known residence of Headley on 10 Southview Drive in South Burlington and located Ms. Lumumba who had been shot and was deceased.

An arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder has been issued for Leroy Headley, 36, of South Burlington. Mr. Headley was last known to be driving a 2017 Blue Nissan Pathfinder with VT registration HBR281.

Police have no information of any ongoing threat to the community and have expanded their search efforts to the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area, where Headley has extensive family connections. As has been previously stated, police suggest that the community continue with normal activities but add an extra layer of caution, observing for any suspicious behavior. There is no need to curtail outdoor activities as this was a very specific and targeted crime. Headley is assumed to be armed and dangerous, and although there is no imminent danger perceived to the community, he should not be approached by anyone other than law enforcement. Report any sightings immediately to 911.
