EASTHAM
– Eastham Police report that on Friday at approximately 6:30 a.m. they responded to South Sunken Meadow Beach for a report from a citizen of some personal belongings located on the beach. After a short investigation the owner was determined to be a 46-year-old male from Eastham. The Eastham Police Department developed reason to believe that the owner may have taken a swim in Cape Cod Bay the previous night and not returned to shore.

A search involving the Eastham Police Department, Eastham Fire Department, Eastham Natural Resources Department, Wellfleet Fire Department, Orleans Fire Department, United States Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police and Massachusetts Environmental Police was immediately launched in an attempt to locate the individual.

This search area included Cape Cod Bay as well as the shoreline in the area of South Sunken Meadow Beach. After approximately 11 hours of searching the search was ended for the evening without the individual being located. This incident remains under investigation by the Eastham Police Department and a smaller scale search will resume tomorrow morning.
