Severe storm hits Provincetown

Thunderhead over Sandy Neck

PROVINCETOWN – A severe thunderstorm hit Provincetown around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a warning and reported a 63 MPH wind gust from a buoy just off shore. A beach sign was reportedly blown down along Race Point Road. Over a half inch of torrential rain fell in a short time as temperatures quickly dropped from 88 to 74 in less than an hour.

The photo above taken from Scargo Tower in Dennis looking west shows the storm developing about 90 minutes before it hit.
