Sheriff to hold CERT training class – sign up now

BOURNE
 – The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. After training, CERT members are mobilized to assist first responders during emergencies. They also assist at nonemergency events on Cape Cod, including road races and festivals.

CERT is a free program taught by emergency personnel to train residents, community organizations or workplaces in basic response skills. Following a disaster this additional community training can help save and sustain lives until professional help arrives. Many CERT volunteers are also willing to serve on an on-call basis for regional disasters.

All residents (16 years and older) interested in training for their community’s CERT Team are required to complete the CERT Application for Volunteer Service and CORI forms and submit them to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office for approval prior to the start of the program. The forms can be found at the Sheriff’s website at:

Please call the Sheriff’s Emergency Manager Joseph Gordon at 508-563-4319 for more information.

The free classes will begin October 9, 2019 and meet on consecutive Wednesdays until November 20, 2019. The classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Falmouth Fire and Rescue Headquarters, 399 Main St. in Falmouth. Class size is limited to 25.
