Sheriff’s Citizens Academy coming in May

BOURNE
– Barnstable County Sheriff James M. Cummings today set Monday, May 14th, for opening night of his annual Citizens Academy. The BCSO Citizens Academy provides participants with an inside view of the Barnstable County Correctional Facility, the BCSO Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the BCSO Telecommunications Division, the BCSO Civil Process Division as well as the community offerings provided by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.

The Academy will meet each Monday night for six weeks from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. until June 25th at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne, MA. There will be no class held on Memorial Day. All participants must submit a completed Citizens Academy Application and Facility Tour Release Form to the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office for acceptance into the program and agree to attend each day of the scheduled Citizens Academy.

“The biggest part of our job is running a house of correction and jail,” Sheriff

Cummings pointed out. “But our mission is a lot more varied than that. This is a great opportunity for interested citizens to see exactly how we go about our business.”
