Governor Charlie Baker addresses those on hand Friday (May 20th) for the state Department of Correction’s (DOC’s) annual award ceremony. Honor guard members seen in prior photo are among those presenting a panoramic backdrop inside the stately House of Representatives chamber – just not in this particular photo.

(Left to right) Governor Baker, Captain Grenier, Deputies Michonski and Bumpus, Sheriff, and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito.  The captain and two deputies joined fellow Deputy Joseph Virden and former deputy (now Vermont state trooper) Daniel Lynch in a search for a woman lost in dense forest adjacent to the correctional facility in Bourne.  It was after dark and a snow storm was raging, so finding her was quite possibly a life-saving outcome.

(Left to right) The governor, the Patrick Martin family, the Sheriff, Bourne Police Officer Jared MacDonald, and the lieutenant governor.  (Left to right on the Martin family) daughter Adia, Deputy Martin, daughter Rylee, and wife Melissa.  Our K9 officer is wearing his newly-bestowed Medal of Valor for assisting in a wooded search last October in Bourne.  It is awarded by the DOC “in the course of a dangerous incident at high degree of risk” to the recipient.  The search ended with the gunman’s capture and arrest, but not before he killed his former coworker, wounded her domestic partner, severely wounded Officer MacDonald, and set fire to a vehicle.
