NANTUCKET – Working smoke alarms save lives! Early detection and notification by a monitored fire alarm system goes one step further by alerting a central monitoring station who in turn alerts the fire department – year ‘round and even if no one is at home. This weekend’s incident on Hulbert Avenue demonstrates the value of this added protection. The damage caused by this fire was limited due to the rapid response and work of Nantucket Fire personnel who were alerted to the fire by a central monitoring station smoke alarm.
Meanwhile in a related story, carbon monoxide detectors did their job in Wellfleet. Firefighters responding to an alarm at 925 Chequesset Neck Road Sunday afternoon discovered reading of 80 parts per million of the potentially deadly gas in part of the structure. Everyone had evacuated and no injuries were reported. It was not immediately clear what the source of the gas was.
