close up wiresSOUTH DENNIS – Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday a dump truck operated by Northern Paving pulled down a Verizon cable on Great Western Road near the intersection with South Gages Way in front of Robert Childs Construction Company.

According to reports at the scene, the truck had just dumped a load at a nearby area and the dump body was still partially elevated when it hooked the cable. The cable draped across the road forcing its closure.

Upon arrival, Dennis firefighters determined that two electrical breakers on the pole had been tripped cutting power to nearby facilities including the Dennis Department of Public Works and transfer station.

The driver of the truck was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis Rescue for unknown reasons. He suffered no apparent injuries from the incident.

Great Western Road will be closed for the next three to four hours at South Gages Way while repairs are carried out.
