WOODS HOLE – The Coast Guard reports they responded to the responds to ferry Martha Vineyard after reporting it lost power with about 200 people aboard. The ferry crew was able to get the vessel running and returned to the dock under its own power. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.

The Steamship Authority issued the following statement: “When the M/V Martha’s Vineyard was backing out of Woods Hole Slip 2 for its 5:00 p.m. trip to Vineyard Haven, it temporarily lost power and had to drop anchor until it was able to restart its engines and proceed back into the slip, where it remains docked. Currently, Slip 2 is the only slip in Woods Hole available for operations, as temporary dolphins are being installed in Slip 1 and the M/V Katama is in Slip 3 having one of its generators replaced. The SSA has gotten a tug to move the M/V Katama from Slip 3 so that the M/V Martha’s Vineyard can be repositioned in that slip and Slip 2 can then be available for trips by the M/V Island Home and the M/V Woods Hole, the SSA’s other two vessels that are providing service for Martha’s Vineyard. As a result of this situation, those vessel’s trips will be delayed for the remainder of this evening, and the M/V Martha’s Vineyard’s trips have been cancelled.”
