UPDATED: Storm affects linger in Chatham

CHATHAM – Chatham Police report that Morris Island and Stage Island roads are still impassable. Utility crews are waiting for the tide water to recede before they can safely restore power to the area. Roadways remain CLOSED. There are already several vehicles that did not heed the advisories and are now damaged. Eversource is still showing about 200 customers without power in Chatham.

Late Friday morning, Chatham Police updated the situation-Attention residents of Morris Island and Stage Island: Currently power is being restored to the area. Eversource and other utility crews are working in the area now. The main issue in that area is STANDING WATER. Currently, large industrial pumps are being strategically placed to begin the water removal. This could take some time. Residents and members of the public will not be allowed into that area until the water has cleared the roadways, and Chatham Building and Fire Inspectors have determined the areas to be safe. Officials understand the public’s urgency to return to their homes, however, the area will remain restricted until the hazards have been mitigated.

Is is believed the road is going to be closed until at least Midnight. Places closed …… Sam’s Automotive Center,   Land Ho Restaurant, and Gas Station Mart.
