Storm update: Downed wires cause outage in Orleans and Brewster, power still out to parts of Barnstable

Orleans Police/CWN

ORLEANS – At 3:30 AM, Orleans Police and Fire responded to Monument Road at Herring Brook Way for a report of power line wires on fire. Upon arrival units observed several live primary wires lying on Monument Road. Power is out in this section of Orleans and the road is closed. As of 3:40 am there has been no ETA on how long it will take for power to be restored. Eversource has been advised and are responding. The Eversource map indicated nearly 600 customers out in Orleans and Brewster. Motorists can use Herring Brook Way to bypass the hazard.

Meanwhile, over 600 customers were without power in parts of Barnstable. This is up slightly from last nights report. That number was reduced to under 400 by 9 AM and was largely cleared by 10:30 AM. The squally weather is believed responsible for the outages.
