Strong southwest winds led to several water rescues

Southwest winds gusting to nearly 30 MPH are made for hazardous conditions on the waters Friday:

CHATHAM
– Rescuers were called to the end of Salt Pond Road at Chatham Harbor around 12:15 p.m. after reports of 3 kayakers in distress. One of them made shore on their own but the Chatham Harbormaster had to assist the other two to shore. No one was injured…

YARMOUTH – A report of a windsurfer in distress about 2 miles off Sea Gull Beach in Yarmouth around 12:45 p.m. prompted a search of the waters off Great Island by the Yarmouth Harbormaster, and Dennis and Yarmouth FDs. Four windsurfers had been located but no one in distress. Officials were continuing to search the area…

EASTHAM – Search crews from Eastham assisted by a Dennis FD boat were looking for a missing windsurfer along the bayside…they were also checking a boater in distress in Nauset inlet. The boaters were brought to Shore by an Orleans crew (above). The search for the windsurfer was called off at dusk. Nothing was found and no one had been reported missing.
