Suspect arrested after foot chase in Yarmouth

wordellSOUTH YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. Yarmouth Police Department Proactive Anti-Crime (PAC) Unit Officer Nicholas Ambrosini observed a man walking behind the Auto Zone store in the South Yarmouth shopping plaza on Route 28 in South Yarmouth. The officer knew the man to have an active felony warrant for the theft of Fentanyl from a local medical facility.

The suspect ran off when he saw Officer Ambrosini and, despite repeated verbal commands to stop, continued to run towards Mars Lane. The suspect continued to run until he slipped and fell in a small snow bank. According to Yarmouth Police, Officer Ambrosini fell on top of him and the suspect turned around and squared up in an assaultive manner with his fists clenched. Officer Ambrosini deployed his Taser device but the probes did not connect and the suspect continued to run.

Officer Ambrosini caught up to the suspect and took him down in the area of Jupiter Lane behind Shaw’s Market. Officer Ambrosini re-deployed his Taser and the suspect was taken in to custody with the assistance of backup PAC Unit Officer Sean Geary.

The suspect—Kevin Wordell, Jr., 25, of Yarmouth Port, (photo at right) with 59 prior criminal charges in Massachusetts—was transported to Yarmouth Police Department headquarters for booking. He was subsequently arraigned in the Barnstable District Court charged with resisting arrest and felony warrant for larceny of a controlled substance.
