Swerving vehicle results in two arrests

(l-r) Jeffrey L. Johnson, Zachary L. Mulcahy

WAREHAM – Wareham Police report that last Thursday at about 8:40 PM, Sgt. Daniel Henderson was on patrol in the area of Cranberry Highway when he observed a pickup swerve across the center line into the oncoming traffic. Sgt. Henderson immediately affected a notor vehicle stop of the truck. The vehicle was occupied by two men and the passenger appeared to be very nervous. A routine check revealed the driver, Jeffrey L. Johnson, 24, of East Wareham, had a suspended license and an active warrant. The passenger, Zachary L. Mulcahy, 23, had an active warrant for burglary out of California. While being placed in custody, Ofc. Joseph Cardoza located a packaged brownish powder, believed to be heroin on Mulcahy.

Both men were arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. Johnson was charged with operating after license suspended and warrant arrest. Mulcahy was charged with possession of a Class A substance and being a fugitive from justice. Both were scheduled to appear in Wareham District Court on Friday June 8th for arraignment on the charges. Ofc. James White assisted Sgt. Henderson and Ofc. Cardoza at the scene.
