Taunton man killed in Carver crash

CARVER – State Police are investigating a fatal two-car crash in Carver early last Friday morning.

State Police responded to the accident on Route 44 just after 12:30 a.m.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Justin Greene indicates that a 23-year-old Monponsett man was traveling on 44 westbound in Carver in a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant when he struck a 1998 Saturn, which was stationary in the breakdown lane.

The operator, an unidentified 31-year-old, was believed to be outside his vehicle at the time of the crash.

He was transported to South Shore Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.  The operator of the Mitsubishi was uninjured in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.  No charges have been filed at this time.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

State Police were assisted on scene by Carver Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
