Three-alarm fire hits Wareham church

WAREHAM – From Wareham Fire: Saturday morning at 1:04 A.M., Wareham Fire received a fire alarm activation from 82 High Street, Saint Patrick’s Church. Group 1 responded in E1 and the call force was toned out for other apparatus to respond as well.

Upon arrival, the Duty captain reported smoke coming from the roof and fire showing inside the structure from the front. A working fire assignment was dispatched & E1 requested the Onset Ladder to the scene directly.

Assistant Chief Haskell (C2) arrived and established command while Assistant Chief Kelley (C3) responded to the scene as was in charge of operations. Command requested second & third alarm assignments filled. The second alarm companies were sent to the scene and a third alarm companies were sent to a staging area and used as needed at the scene and for station coverage.

Mutual aid was provided by Wareham Police, Wareham EMS, Onset Fire, Carver Fire, Marion Fire, Rochester Fire, Bourne Fire, DFS Special Operations & the Providence Canteen.

The fire was knocked down and companies have been working to vent the building and check for extension and damages. Slowly, mutual aid companies were released back to their towns. Wareham E4 will be standing by at the church as a fire watch detail through the morning.

Thank you all very much for the assistance. The fire is currently under investigation and the cause has not yet been identified.
