Three arrested for OUI over weekend in Wareham

WAREHAM – During the past weekend, officers of the Wareham Police Department arrested 2 vehicle operators for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor and 1 operator for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs in unrelated incidents.

At approximately 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th, an off duty WPD officer followed a male operator, later identified as 57 year old James Hawkins of Wareham as he stumbled to his car and left the parking lot, operating erratically through residential streets and on Cranberry Highway until stopped by Officer Calib Larue on Main Street. Mr. Hawkins failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for OUI for the 5th time, having appeared in Cambridge and Malden District Courts regarding prior OUI charges.

At approximately 11:45 pm on Saturday, August 12th, Officer David Melo charged 19 year old Wareham resident Tyler Gallus for OUI and operating an uninsured vehicle when officers responded to the area of 1040 Main St. for a motor vehicle accident involving a van driven by Mr. Gallus and 3 unoccupied vehicles parked in the Mill Street/Main St. area. Investigation showed Mr. Gallus was operating the van while intoxicated and struck the 3 parked vehicles, causing damage to each. Mr. Gallus was transported to Tobey Hospital with minor injuries and will receive a court summons to appear at the Wareham District Court regarding the criminal charges.

Delores Proctor

At approximately 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 13th, Officer Nate Aronson responded to #18 Martin St. for the report of a vehicle that traveling into the front yard, struck a tree, and spun to a stop against the house. The vehicle then accelerated backward and struck the house again. Delores Proctor, age 61 of Wareham was charged with OUI Drugs after failing several field sobriety tests and admitting to using prescription medications. She was also cited for Operating After License Suspension and Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle. There were no reported injuries at the scene, however, Ms. Proctor was transported to Tobey Hospital, due to her observed state at the scene. She will receive a court summons to appear at Wareham District Court regarding the criminal charges.
