New Details: Three injured, one seriously in crash that closes Route 6 in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET – Three people were injured, one seriously in a two-vehicle crash in Wellfleet about 8:45 PM Sunday evening. The crash happened on Route 6 by the Marconi Beach Restaurant. Ambulances from Eastham and Orleans responded to the scene. The highway was briefly closed but officials were able to get one alternating lane of traffic going. Wellfleet Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Statement from Wellfleet Police: On Sunday at approximately 8:48 PM, Wellfleet PD received a 911 call about a motor vehicle crash on Rt. 6 in the area of Marconi Beach Restaurant. Wellfleet PD & Wellfleet FD responded and determined it to be a 2-car crash with 3 parties being injured. A mutual aid ambulance was requested to the scene to assist.

The vehicles were positioned on Route 6 requiring one lane to be closed for approximately ½ hour. Travel on Route 6 was kept flowing by officers alternating the flow of traffic till both lanes could be opened.

Vehicle 1: 2014 Grey Subaru
Operator – Sarah Multer, Wellfleet, MA (70 years of age)

Vehicle 2: 2003 Honda
Operator – Victoria Maichin, Stroudsburg, PA (17 years of age)

The operator of vehicle 2 was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries. The operator and passenger of vehicle 1 were evaluated at the scene and declined to be transported to Cape Cod Hospital for an evaluation.

Vehicle 1 was slowing to make a turn and was struck from behind by vehicle 2.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department.
