TRURO – Truro Police probing theft of home heating oil tank from residence

– Truro Police report that on Tuesday at approximately 3:19 PM,, a Depot Road homeowner contacted them to report the theft of the homes heating oil tank. Truro Officers responded to the residence to meet with the property caretaker who is a Truro resident. The homeowner is currently not in Massachusetts.

The caretaker directed investigating Officers to an unattached garage on the property. He pointed to a concrete slab next to the garage where a 275 gallon oval shaped oil tank once was. The tank stood about 5 feet tall. An intake hose that runs underground from the house to the tank had been cut about a foot from ground level.

The caretaker advised that he regularly checks the house once a week, and the heating oil level from the outside oil tank at the beginning of every month.

Investigating Officers contacted local oil company’s and service technicians to rule out work being done at the home. The homeowner also advised that he had not scheduled any work.

The name of the homeowner and the street address are not being released as a privacy precaution, because at this time the home it is unoccupied.

The Truro Police Department would like to remind everyone that if you see something, say something. Please report any suspicious activity to us. It is also important to have a caretaker check on your residence if it is going to be unoccupied. Please contact the Truro Police Department if you would like us to check your property while you are away.
