Two arrested during drug search warrant in Falmouth


FALMOUTH
– Falmouth Police report that A drug investigation in Falmouth led to the arrest of two people and the seizure of heroin, marijuana, and cash.

Falmouth Police, with the assistance of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and Cape Cod Drug Task Force served a search warrant on a camper located at the Sippewissett Campground on Tuesday at about 12:35 PM. The incident was part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

During the operation, the suspects attempted to flee in a car and in the process struck an unmarked police car. The operator, Todd Lopes, age 29 of Falmouth (left) was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous  weapon (motor vehicle), operating to endanger, failing to stop for police and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act. No one was injured.

Investigators searched the property, located, and seized 58 grams of heroin, $10,500 in cash, and over two pounds of marijuana, including marijuana edibles.

Andrew Weldon, age 28 of New Bedford (right) was also arrested and charged with trafficking heroin (subsequent offense), possession of marijuana with intent to distribute (subsequent offense), and conspiracy to violate controlled substance act.

Trafficking heroin is a more serious offense than mere possession of an illegal drug or illegal drug distribution. Trafficking 58 grams of heroin may be punished by five to twenty years of imprisonment.
