Two charged in armed robberies in Bourne

BOURNE – Bourne Police report that on Friday at approximately 1:54 a.m., Officers responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Sagamore Bridge Shell, 1 Canal St. Sagamore Beach. Upon arrival, Officers determined that a masked assailant, armed with what appeared to be a black and silver handgun, had robbed the store and fled the area with an undisclosed amount of cash. A K-9 unit from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office was requested and responded to the scene.

At approximately 2:08 a.m,, the Bourne Police Department received a second report of an armed robbery at the Bourne Bridge Mobil gas station located at 2 Head of the Bay Road in Buzzards Bay. Upon arrival at the Bourne Bridge Mobil, Officers determined that a masked assailant, armed with what appeared to be a black and silver handgun and matching the suspect description from the previous incident had robbed the Mobil in a similar fashion and fled that scene, also with an undisclosed amount of cash.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., the Bourne Police Department received a call from the Mattapoisett, MA Police Department who had a vehicle stopped on Route 195 in their town on motor vehicle violations. The vehicle was occupied by two parties including a male subject who matched the description given from the Bourne robberies.
Subsequent investigation related to the stop resulted in the recovery of evidence consistent with the robberies. The female operator and the male passenger were taken into custody by the Mattapoisett Police Department based on charges from the motor vehicle stop.

As a result of the investigation, Nazario Garate, 34 and Jessica Walton, 27, both residents of Marston’s Mills, were charged with armed robbery while masked (2 counts) and  conspiracy (2 counts) by the Bourne Police Department.
