Two face numerous drug charges after crashing car


EASTHAM
– Eastham Police report that on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at approximately 12:32 PM, Detective Sergeant Schnitzer, Sergeant Booth, and Officer Williams responded to the area of the Eastham Information Booth for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, it was determined that the involved motor vehicle had driven across the 4 lanes of Route 6 from the parking lot of the Eastham Information Booth, crashing into a tree on the opposite side of the highway.

The operator of the vehicle, identified as Scott Douglass, 30, and the passenger, identified as Dante Vara, 24, appeared to under the influence of some type of drug. After an on scene investigation was conducted, Douglass was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation. Further investigation revealed a large amount of drugs within the vehicle.

Located in the vehicle was the following: Approximately 218.4 grams of liquid believed to be methamphetamine, approximately 12.4 grams of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, 3.8 grams of a powdered substance believed to be heroin, 11 cigarettes believed to be laced with cocaine, a number of prescription medications, and materials commonly used in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.

Based on these findings, Douglass is being charged with one count of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, one count of Possession of a Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute (Heroin), one count of Possession of a Class B Drug with Intent to Distribute (Cocaine & Suboxone), one count of Possession of with Intent to Distribute a Class E Drug (Prescription Medications), OUI Drugs, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and a Marked Lane Violation.

Vara is being charged with one count of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, one count of Possession of a Class A Drug with Intent to Distribute (Heroin), one count of Possession of a Class B Drug with Intent to Distribute (Cocaine & Suboxone), and one count of Possession of with Intent to Distribute a Class E Drug (Prescription Medications).

Both Douglass and Vara were held overnight at the Eastham Police Department on $5,000 cash bail and arraigned this morning at the Orleans District Court. This incident remains under investigation. Further charges may follow.
