UPDATE: Man in wood chipper accident in stable condition

YARMOUTH
From Yarmouth Police: The Yarmouth Police Department is pleased to report that the 31-year-old Dennisport man who was badly injured in a wood chipper accident yesterday morning in South Yarmouth is in stable condition and doing as well as can be expected this morning at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

The man has lost most of his left leg but is good spirits and fortunate to be alive.

The Yarmouth Police Department commends all of the First Responders involved in his rescue:

  • Emergency 911 Dispatchers
  • Police Officers
  • Firefighters
  • Doctors and Nurses at Cape Cod Hospital who effectively handled a Level One Trauma event in such an exemplary manner.

We also highly commend the victim’s Triple Crown Tree Company co-workers, Kevin McCarty age 30, of Concord, and Nicholas Callahan age 29, of Dennisport, who quickly took effective and decisive action. McCarthy immediately called out for help and placed the machine in reverse. Callahan removed his belt and used it as a tourniquet around the victim’s left leg, elevated it, applied pressure, and they both kept the victim calm as possible until Police and Fire arrived.

Incredible, lifesaving, teamwork. Their actions saved a life.

Well Done Everyone!
