YARMOUTH
– On Sunday July 1, 2018, at 2:25 AM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Jeffrey Rivett was dispatched to a residence on Hyatt’s Circle in South Yarmouth for the report of a past B&E.

The reporting party who is the homeowner had returned home from an evening out and found their residence had been broken into through a window and their two dogs were missing.

The homeowners report going out at 6:00PM and when they arrived back home around 2:10AM they observed the living room window air conditioning unit was lying on the ground outside the residence.

The residence showed signs of being disturbed as furniture was moved, closet doors were open, and items that were stowed had been strewn about.

The couple’s two dogs were missing. One dog was described as a brindle colored Boxer/Bulldog mix and the second a black and white “bully”, a short Pit Bull type dog.

Yarmouth Police Officers entered the residence and checked to make sure the residence was clear of the perpetrator, secured the home, and began an on-scene investigation which included reviewing security footage taken by a camera located inside the residence. The footage shows the couples dogs barking towards the area where the a/c unit was located at 11:50PM. At 11:53 PM, the footage shows a party entering the residence through the window where the a/c unit was located.

Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Units provided crime scene services. Nothing else besides the two dogs were reported missing.

At approximately 9:00 AM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Dianna Wells, responded to a Hyatt’s Circle and was advised that the homeowner had located one of the dogs, Rocky, in the woods behind his house. The dog appeared with some injuries and it is unclear at this time if they were inflected by a person or sustained as a result of spending the night outside in the woods. Rocky’s paws were damaged and he has an indent above his tail that was not previously there. At 1 PM, the Yarmouth Police Department posted the remaining missing dog Oreo’s picture on the Yarmouth Police Facebook page. At approximately 2:30 PM, we received a phone call from a person who stated that they had located Oreo very early Sunday AM on Ocean Street in Hyannis and turned her over to Barnstable Animal Control. Barnstable Animal Control transported the dog to the Animal Inn in Sandwich. Yarmouth Police contacted the homeowners and they recovered Oreo. Both dogs are doing very well and are at home with their owners.

The Yarmouth Police Department is conducting an active investigation in to this crime.

Suspect captured in the video appears to be a black male wearing a sweatshirt.
