Video shows Bourne Police saving OD victim in station lot

BOURNE – On Saturday, October 28th, a car pulled into the police parking lot around 11:39 PM. Officers, who were ending their shift, immediately identified that an unresponsive occupant of the vehicle was suffering a medical emergency, later determined to be the result of an overdose on heroin. Officers sprang into action, administering a dose of Evzio (naloxone), and were able to stabilize the patient prior to the arrival of the Bourne FD. The ambulance attendants transported the patient to a local hospital.

Thankfully, this unresponsive patient was able to receive an overdose reversal drug within a timely manner. Unfortunately, treatment is not always able to be provided so rapidly and the outcome is not always positive. In 2017, this represents the 67th overdose in the Town of Bourne and the 17th time Bourne Police officers administered Evzio to successfully reverse the effects of an opiate related overdose. There have been 5 fatal overdoses in town this year, four related to opiate overdoses.

If you know of someone that is suffering from addiction, please assist them with seeking help. It is never too late to try to save a life.
